Who we are
Simple Business Energy is a trading name of Martin Stone, a sole trader. We help businesses find energy deals by passing their enquiries to our partner, Utilink Consulting Limited (company number 13127960), a business energy broker. We are not an energy supplier, and we do not arrange or sign energy contracts ourselves.
For this website and the enquiries you send us, Martin Stone is the data controller. That means we decide how your information is used and are responsible for protecting it.
Address: Simple Business Energy, Lytchett House, 13 Freeland Park, Wareham Road, Poole, Dorset, BH16 6FA
Email: hello@simplebusinessenergy.co.uk

What information we collect
When you use the quote form on our website, we collect:
- your name, the name of your business, your phone number and your email address
- your business postcode
- details about your business energy: whether you need electricity, gas or both, your approximate annual spend, when your current contract ends and how many sites you have
- a record that you agreed to be contacted, and when
If you email us, we also keep your message and anything else you choose to tell us about your requirements.
We also record which page you used and, where you arrived from an advert, the advert’s tracking reference. This helps us understand which adverts lead to enquiries.
If you agree to cookies, we also collect information about how you found and used our website, such as the pages you visited. See the cookies and advertising section below.
How we use your information and why
We use your information to pass your enquiry to Utilink so they can contact you about energy quotes. Data protection law requires us to have a legal reason for each use:
| What we do | Legal reason |
|---|---|
| Pass your enquiry to Utilink and follow up on it | You asked us to, so it is necessary to take steps at your request before entering a contract. Where you are acting for a company, it is our legitimate interest in responding to your enquiry. |
| Measure which adverts work, using cookies | Your consent through our cookie banner. |
| Keep records of enquiries and commission | To meet our legal and tax obligations, and our legitimate interest in checking we are paid correctly. |
| Handle complaints or legal claims | Our legitimate interest in resolving disputes. |
We don’t send marketing emails or texts. If we ever start, we will only do so if you have separately agreed to receive them, and you can stop them at any time.
We give each enquiry a simple priority rating based on the answers you give, such as your contract end date and energy spend, to help Utilink’s specialists decide who to call first. This doesn’t decide whether you can get a quote, and a person always reviews your enquiry. We do not sell your information.
Who we share your information with
We share your enquiry with Utilink, our broker partner, so they can contact you and find you energy quotes. Utilink decides how it uses your information and has its own privacy notice: utilinkconsulting.co.uk/privacy-policy.
To arrange quotes and contracts, Utilink may share your details with:
- energy suppliers, so they can give quotes and set up your contract
- credit reference agencies, as suppliers usually check a business’s credit before offering a contract
We also use a small number of service providers who handle information on our behalf. They may only use it to provide their service to us:
- Netlify, which hosts our website
- Google, which provides our email and the system that receives enquiries, and, if you agree to cookies, our website analytics and advert measurement
- CookieYes, which runs our cookie banner and records your cookie choices
- our mail-handling service, which receives post sent to our business address
We will share information if the law requires it, for example with HMRC or the police.
Some of our service providers may store information outside the UK. Where they do, they use legal safeguards approved under UK law.
How long we keep your information
We keep your information only as long as we need it:
| Information | How long we keep it |
|---|---|
| Enquiries that do not lead to an energy contract | 12 months from your last contact with us |
| Enquiries that lead to an energy contract | The length of the contract plus 6 years, so we can check commission and meet tax rules |
| Records of your agreement to be contacted | As long as we keep the enquiry it relates to |
After these periods, we securely delete or anonymise your information.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- get a copy of the information we hold about you
- ask us to correct information that is wrong or incomplete
- ask us to delete your information
- ask us to limit how we use your information
- object to us using your information based on our legitimate interests
- withdraw your consent at any time, including to cookies
- ask for your information in a format you can pass to another organisation
To use any of these rights, email us at hello@simplebusinessenergy.co.uk. We will reply within one month. There is usually no charge.
If we have already passed your enquiry to Utilink, you may also need to contact Utilink, because they handle their own copy of your information.
Cookies and advertising
We only use analytics and advertising cookies if you agree to them through our cookie banner. Cookies needed to make the website work are always on.
We advertise on Google. If you accept cookies, Google’s tools on our site tell us which adverts lead to enquiries and how people use the site. Google may also use this information under its own privacy policy.
You can change your cookie choices at any time using the cookie settings button on our website. Our cookie policy lists the cookies we use.
